Sustainability

At Elevra, our purpose is to provide a secure and reliable supply of lithium to power the future. Our strategy is built around the global response to climate change that is driving a clean energy transition. We combine operational excellence with disciplined asset management to maximise efficiency and develop long-term sustainable value for our stakeholders.

We define our commitment to sustainability by understanding material longer-term risks and opportunities across our operations and value chain. We inform this view through ongoing engagement with our customers, communities, investors, business partners, suppliers, regulators, industry bodies and employees.

Our governance structure ensures sustainability has the oversight of our Board with management systems implemented across our global business. These systems are aligned with evolving global and industry standards to help us to measure, monitor, verify, and report on our performance.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)

Our Board approved policy commitments addressing our most material sustainability topics are available on our website here. Elevra continues to advance ESG initiatives addressing these topics as outlined below.

Climate Change

  • At Elevra, our business enables the global transition to Net Zero by producing lithium required for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and other battery storage technology.
  • At our operations and projects, we are working towards our emission reduction processes by 2040. Our Quebec based North American Lithium (NAL) Facility is strategically positioned to utilise renewable hydroelectricity on site to produce spodumene concentrate with a lower emissions intensity.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

  • The health, safety and wellbeing of our people is central to everything we do. At our NAL Facility in Quebec, we have developed the Implication – Courage – Impact (ICI) safety program to reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and proactive hazard identification. As part of this program we introduced mandatory monthly inspections on critical risks that are now embedded across all levels.

Human Rights

  • At Elevra we respect and promote the fundamental principles of internationally recognised human rights, following the recommendations of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This commitment is embedded in Elevra’s Code of Conduct.
  • On 19 December 2024, we published our first annual Modern Slavery Statement for the year ending 30 June 2024, affirming Elevra’s commitment to ethical sourcing and transparent supply chains.

Local & Indigenous Community Collaboration

  • We aspire to be an active and positive member of the communities in which we operate and strive to create shared value and improve wellbeing.
  • We recognise and acknowledge the right of Indigenous peoples and respect sites, places, structures and objects that are culturally or traditionally significant.
  • At our projects we maintain open communication channels with local communities. Our Cherryville Community Engagement Hub welcomes neighbours and residents near our Carolina Lithium Project to meet our team and ask any questions about our company. In Quebec, we have developed a “Good Neighbour Guide,” working closely with community members near NAL. Further north at our Moblan project, we continue to meet regularly with local families, tallymen, and land users to define the projects Impact Benefit Agreement.

Environment & Biodiversity

  • Elevra is committed to operating in a responsible manner in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • At each of our projects we work closely with local communities, advisors and government bodies to identify and address potential impacts to biodiversity and ecosystem services.
  • In Quebec, we have partnered with a local NGO to fully offset fish habitat losses associated with reopening the NAL site.

Waste & Tailings Management

  • We have established partnerships with local communities to donate retired equipment to raise funds for charities while diverting materials from landfill.
  • We are committed to the responsible management of tailings at our NAL mine in line with the Tailings Management Protocol of the Mining Association of Canada.

Economic Contribution

  • Each of our projects presents an opportunity to provide an economic benefit to local communities. We have programs in place to increase procurement of products and services from local companies.
  • We report on our material government payments each year through Canada’s Extractive Sector Transparency Act which is aligned with the requirements of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI).
